What Factors Into the Cost of Wisdom Teeth Removal?
When you meet with one of our oral surgeons, we will take 3D scans of your mouth and create a custom treatment plan for your unique needs. Every patient is different, therefore there is no flat rate for wisdom teeth removal. The cost of having your wisdom teeth removed will depend on several factors, which we will discuss during the first visit. These factors include:
- How many wisdom teeth you need to have removed
- Your choice of anesthesia (most patients undergo IV sedation for this procedure)
- The overall complexity of your surgery
- Your dental/medical insurance
Risks of Leaving Wisdom Teeth Untreated
Wisdom teeth can cause many problems if left in the mouth. Many people have their wisdom teeth extracted because they start causing pain or discomfort. However, wisdom teeth do not always cause pain. They may cause issues below the surface, such as damage to adjacent teeth or facial nerves. Partially erupted wisdom teeth easily trap cavity-causing bacteria, which can lead to infections. Cysts or tumors may then form around infected wisdom teeth. As wisdom teeth try to squeeze through the gums, they can push other teeth out of alignment. Over time, this may cause misalignment throughout your entire smile and lead to bite problems.
Even if wisdom teeth are not causing you pain, having them removed can prevent these issues from having the chance to arise. Dental professionals recommend having wisdom teeth extracted as soon as they make an appearance because they are easier to extract before they have fully developed. This is typically during the late teens or early twenties. However, you can have wisdom teeth extracted at any age. At Kentuckiana Oral Maxillofacial and Dental Implant Surgery, we regularly perform wisdom tooth extractions for teens and adults.
Wisdom Tooth Removal Procedure
Before undergoing oral surgery, a member of our team will walk you through every step so you know what to expect and how to prepare for your procedure. On the day of your procedure, we will administer the selected form of anesthesia. IV sedation is most often used for wisdom teeth removal. This type of sedation will put you into a sleep-like state, where you will not feel discomfort.
After the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will extract erupted wisdom teeth using forceps, similar to a standard tooth extraction. For wisdom teeth that are partially or fully impacted, your surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue and remove the teeth. Sutures are placed as needed and after undergoing IV sedation, a responsible adult must drive you home after the procedure.

In addition to accepting many payment methods and insurance plans, our office offers financing to help you afford the care you need.
